Data Discovery: Query Ribbon

The query tab is the place where you fine tune your query parameters.

Query Options

Auto Run
  • Select Auto Run to see your query changes immediately. This may slow down response time.
  • Deselect Auto Run to make changes to your query without seeing immediate results. To see results, press F2 or click the Run Query icon (upper right corner).
Refresh Metadata

Reloads a cube's metadata structures (trees and menus). Useful if the cube definition has changed during an analytic session. Or if new public customer members and sets have been created by other users.

Hide ToolTips

Hides tooltips that are used to expose detailed properties of member elements (in both reporting elements and element trees).

NOTE: Hiding tool tips can improve performance.

Query Pre-Check

Turns ON/OFF the Query Pre-check feature. If turned ON, query pre-check logic will be applied. This is used to ensure overly large queries are not executed by mistake. The user will be asked to confirm the execution of a large query. In some cases, administrators may block large queries from running completely.

NOTE: Users can set the default setting (ON/OFF) for Query Pre-Checks in User Options.

Query Options
  • The top part of the split button turns ON all query options for optimizing query response time.
  • The button part of the split button exposes the individual Query Options for optimizing query response time.

Query Functions

Pivot

Swaps column/row dimensional settings and re-executes the query.

Eliminations

Manage row and column Eliminations for the current report.

Totals

For information on Totals, see the Visual Totals dialog.

Columns

Filter

Provides choice to open Filtering dialog or to remove column filters.

Sort

Provides choice to open Sorting dialog or to remove column sorts.

Hide Empty

Hides empty columns in current report. This command hides columns with empty cells (null data), but does not hide columns containing zero values.

Custom Order

Allows the changing of the natural hierarchical order of column elements in the query results. Once activated, the custom ordering reflects the order in which column elements were selected in the hierarchy trees. Users can select disparate items using the CONTROL key.

NOTE: Custom ordering does not work with functional element selections.

Optimize

Improves query processing time by pre-checking for empty column cells and removing them from the query. When Optimize is selected the query employs the MDX "NONEMPTY" function to eliminate empty data points in the query to improve performance.

IMPORTANT: Optimize can, in some cases, make the query outcome render unexpected results depending on the data model and other calculations.

Rows

Filter

Provides choice to open Filtering dialog or to remove row filters.

Sort

Provides choice to open Sorting dialog or to remove row sorts.

N-of-N

Generates N-of-N Iterations across hierarchies.

Hide Empty

Hides empty rows in current report. This command hides rows with empty cells (null data), but does not hide rows containing zero values.
